KHT Series Monolithic TPEE Film

KHT Series is a monolithic, non-porous TPEE film developed for medical barrier laminates that require reliable liquid protection, high moisture-vapor transmission, and a soft, flexible structure.

Unlike microporous membranes, KHT contains no physical pores. Moisture vapor moves through the film by interacting with hydrophilic segments within the polymer structure and passing across the membrane through molecular diffusion. This enables the material to release body-generated moisture while maintaining a continuous barrier against liquid penetration. In Kae Hwa’s product coding system, KHT is classified as a TPEE moisture-permeable film.

Non-Porous Protection with Moisture-Vapor Control

KHT Series is designed for applications where both barrier reliability and wearing comfort are critical.

Because the membrane has a continuous, non-porous structure, it does not depend on open micropores for moisture transfer. Instead, its chemical structure absorbs moisture vapor from the warmer, more humid side of the material, transports it through the membrane, and releases it toward the cooler, drier side.

This moisture-transfer mechanism helps reduce heat and humidity buildup inside medical protective garments while preserving resistance to liquids, blood, alcohol, and external contaminants.

Key Performance Advantages

Monolithic, Non-Porous Structure
The continuous membrane provides a uniform liquid barrier without relying on physical pores.

High Moisture-Vapor Transmission
Hydrophilic polymer segments transport moisture vapor through molecular diffusion, helping improve comfort during extended wear.

Soft and Flexible Handfeel
TPEE provides greater softness and flexibility than many conventional rigid barrier films, making it suitable for wearable medical laminates.

Reliable Liquid Protection
The non-porous structure supports resistance to blood, body fluids, alcohol, and liquid penetration when incorporated into a properly engineered laminate.

Consistent Barrier Integrity
Because there are no micropores to enlarge or become obstructed, KHT provides a stable and continuous barrier structure.

Good Drape and Conformability
The film adapts well to garment movement, folded structures, reinforcement panels, and complex medical product designs.

Lamination Compatibility
KHT can be combined with spunbond, meltblown, SSMMS, and other medical nonwoven substrates in two-layer or three-layer constructions.

Medshield application scope

Medical Applications

KHT Series is suitable for medical laminates used in:

  • Surgical gowns
  • Surgical drapes
  • Isolation gowns
  • Chemotherapy gowns
  • Medical reinforcement panels
  • High-barrier protective garments
  • AAMI Level 4 garment constructions
  • Fluid-resistant medical covers

Its combination of softness, moisture-vapor transmission, and non-porous barrier protection makes it particularly suitable for products worn during long procedures or used in areas exposed to blood and body fluids.

Designed for MediShield™ Medical Laminates

KHT Series can function as the central barrier layer within MediShield™ structures.

A typical three-layer construction may include:

  • A fluid-repellent and opaque outer nonwoven
  • A KHT monolithic TPEE membrane
  • A soft inner nonwoven layer

The outer layer contributes durability and fluid repellency, while the inner layer improves wearer comfort. Positioned between these layers, the KHT membrane provides liquid protection and controlled moisture-vapor transmission.

Core Advantages

This fabric delivers enhanced protection for critical reinforcement zones—such as chest panels, sleeves, and front or abdominal areas—by effectively blocking low- to medium-level fluid splash, irrigation solutions, and common disinfectant liquids. It is a reliable choice for applications that do not require the extreme viral barrier of AAMI Level 4 but still demand consistent and dependable fluid resistance.

Built on the same principles as Kae Hwa’s medical-grade laminates, this reinforced fabric delivers high tear strength, strong film-to-nonwoven bonding, resistance to delamination, and a soft yet supportive handfeel—effectively preventing common issues seen in lower-grade reinforcement materials, such as curling after cutting, film cracking, or layer separation.

Powered by Kae Hwa’s proprietary film technologies—MicroBreath™ microporous waterproof film and AquaVene™ hydrophilic monolithic film—this material delivers breathable yet protective performance, with high WVTR levels for microporous and monolithic films. This high breathability keeps reinforcement zones comfortable even during extended surgical procedures.

Engineered for converting efficiency and OEM manufacturing, the Enhanced Barrier Reinforced Fabric supports seam taping, ultrasonic welding, multi-layer lamination (SFS / SMS / SMMS), and clean slitting and cutting, while maintaining a stable drape and consistent fabric conformity—all contributing to lower defect rates and making it a preferred material for surgical gown reinforcement production.
