3. Certifications & Standards

What differentiates Type 5B and Type 6B fabrics in terms of standard compliance?

The differentiation between Type 5B and Type 6B certifications centers on the physical state of the hazard they are designed to repel. Type 5B is the standard for protection against hazardous solid dust and dry particulates, whereas Type 6B specifies protection against limited liquid chemical splashes. The “B” designation in both cases confirms an additional certified biological barrier against infectious agents.

Comparison Factor Type 5B (Particle Protection) Type 6B (Liquid Splash)
Main European Standard EN ISO 13982-1 EN 13034
Primary Hazard Type Solid particulates, hazardous dusts, and fibers. Low-intensity liquid chemical sprays and aerosols.
Testing Focus Inward leakage of fine dry particles. Resistance to penetration by liquid droplets.
Biological Requirement Compliant with EN 14126 (Bio-hazard). Compliant with EN 14126 (Bio-hazard).

InduBarrier™ Versatility: Kae Hwa’s InduBarrier™ series is engineered to simultaneously meet Type 4B, 5B, and 6B requirements. This multi-standard compliance ensures that our microporous laminated fabrics provide a comprehensive shield against both toxic dust and liquid biological hazards without sacrificing breathability.
